Jerry & Dawn Blair
Two Seasonal Crews aboard catamaran BRAVEHEART
Summer, 2017 and Winter, 2018 - Capt. Jerry Blair and Chef/Mate Dawn Blair
Captain Jerry has been sailing since he was 2 years old and has sailed extensively throughout the Northeast USA, and Caribbean and has undertaken several Trans-Atlantic crossings. He holds a 100 ton USCG Masters license and is also a NAUI Scuba Instructor and PADI Divemaster, as well as a US Sailing Instructor.
One of Jerry's great loves is teaching and as an avid water sports enthusiast he enjoys sharing all his varied knowledge with friends and guests. Jerry teaches lots of SCUBA courses from first time resort courses to full or advanced diving certifications.
After residing in the Caribbean Islands for 13 years, Jerry is a good source of local knowledge and history which ensures every trip is unique, fun and interesting. He is gregarious and loves meeting people..
Dawn Mottram is British, coming from North Wales originally. She grew up on the coast and living by the sea she spent many happy hours with her family on boats. She passed her love for sailing onto her two children, who have taken to the sport as well.
Dawn has always enjoyed cooking for her family, friends and charitable events. She is a trained RGN nurse, specializing in pediatrics, community, and ophthalmic nursing, and has most recently worked as a medical equipment consultant...read more
Her career of helping people as a nurse inspired her to start fund raising for causes she believed in. As the years went on, the scale of her fund raising and the distances she went to, grew. Dawn's passion for the outdoors has led her on cycling tours through Vietnam, hikes up the three highest mountains peaks of Great Britain, and numerous sailing events such as Cowes Week. She has taken part in many long distance offshore sailing races, most notably the Fastnet Race. Her largest fundraiser generated £100,000 for Sail4Cancer. She was involved in forming the first "all female" team to compete in the Non-Stop Around Britain and Ireland Race in 2006. One of her many duties onboard was as bowman and foredeck crew but she was also the cook. Her experiences of cooking on racing boats led Dawn to produce the Swell Food recipe book, for sailing enthusiasts. All proceeds were donated to Sail4Cancer, enabling children suffering from the affects of cancer to have sailing opportunities.
Her passion for sailing and traveling has led Dawn from London to the Caribbean. Her European, Mediterranean, and Asian influences will win you over with regards to her cuisine but it is her caring nature, attention to detail, and constantly striving to improve that will be the lasting impression that stays with you for years to come.
Summer Season 2018 - Capt. Kieran Brown and Chef/Mate Michelle Perciado
Kieran Bown – Captain/ Dive Instructor
Kieran is originally from the UK. He holds an RYA Yachmaster Offshore 200 ton license and is a PADI Dive Instructor. Starting from a young age, Kieran sailed, kayaked and dived throughout Europe growing his passion for the ocean as well as learning valuable skills key to the successful running of sailing and dive charters. Running conservation camps in Fiji also taught Kieran the importance of a balanced marine ecosystem and he is happy to share with you his knowledge of corals, fish and other marine life.
Michelle Preciado – Chef/ Dive Instructor
Michelle is an ocean girl coming from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. A place where her passion for the ocean and underwater life grew throughout her upbringing. She is an RYA Day Skipper and a PADI Dive Instructor. Michelle has also studied at the Ashburton Cooking School in Devon, UK to fine turn her culinary skills allowing her to provide you with the best quality food imaginable. She is delighted to bring to your table her international flare gathered from the many experiences she has had abroad and at home.
Kieran and Michelle began working together in Mexico as Dive instructors and underwater photographers. It was here that a great relationship was forged and they have continued to work successfully together in a variety of roles. Conducting a research project in the Turks & Caicos on humpback whales which resulted in record breaking encounters and unbelievable new data collected again showcased their talent. Once the whales left the Turks and Caicos, Kieran and Michelle decided to head south and begin a new adventure in the British Virgin Islands.
After several years of working on large catamarans in the British Virgin Islands, they have settled into the lifestyle, falling in love with the islands and making themselves at home. They are now very excited to welcome you onboard Braveheart and share all of their favorite dishes, dive spots, anchorages, hikes, beaches, and bars helping you make it the trip of a lifetime.

Jerry & Dawn were more attentive and accommodating that we could ever have anticipated. We felt very comfortable were incredibly well taken care of throughout our week on Braveheart. Dawn and Jerry worked amazingly long, hard days touring us around and keeping us fed and entertained. We even had Jerry take us water skiing and wakeboarding, which was an incredible experience.
Braveheart was even more nicely appointed than I expected. It is beautifully laid out and afforded us all a very comfortable experience. Having four full bathrooms with separate showers was very luxurious. Braveheart is also immaculately clean and obviously very well maintained. Dawn and Jerry worked tirelessly at keeping the boat clean and 'ship-shape'.
The food was a highlight of the trip for all. All of Dawn's meals and snacks were incredibly flavorful and imaginative. They were homemade, healthy and thoughtfully prepared to take into account our group's preferences. The chocolate gateau for Mary's birthday was gorgeous, delicious and a very special added touch. We loved the homemade cookies Dawn made us for lunches and we came to look forward to Jerry's tropical cocktails before dinner each day. Jerry's napkin-folding sessions were a fun and memorable part of our trip as well.
Our itinerary was fabulous. We covered a lot of ground, but were always relaxed. Jerry and Dawn took us to many beautiful spots including, Norman Island, Manchioneel Bay, Trellis Bay, Mountain Point and the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, Ginger Island, Peter Island and more. We loved learning about the areas we visited, the yachting life and sailing. Jerry also took us ashore on several occasions.
Jerry took us on nine incredible dives. We really enjoyed the experience of diving from and returning to our floating accommodation. The lionfish-hunting was a unique opportunity to try to fight for the health of the reef ecosystem. The onboard compressor affords great flexibility. Given the space constraints of a sailboat, Braveheart accommodates divers very well.
Our time aboard Braveheart was a singular experience for all of us. We had the trip of a lifetime. It was amazing to be able to do so much and to visit so many beautiful places without leaving the comfort of Braveheart. We recommend the experience to anyone looking for a luxurious, delicious and active sailing vacation.
We were very happy with Sailing Directions' service and felt very comfortable with all aspects of this, our first, chartering experience. We will definitely use Sailing Directions for any future charters and would not hesitate to recommend Sailing Directions and will do so whenever the opportunity arises.
