Happy Time is a 2010 launched Vision 450 sailing catamaran, built in Cape Town, South Africa by Matrix Yachts. The catamaran is an innovative, thoroughly modern, performance design and has been finished to mega yacht standards in keeping with Matrix Yachts' reputation. The genius and passion of her designer and builder, Peter Wehrley, is apparent in all facets of the yacht down to the smallest detail.
Her accommodations are comfortable, voluminous and fully air conditioned. The immediate impression upon boarding Happy Time is one of spaciousness and generous headroom (6'8" in the salon and 6'5" in the staterooms).
Happy Time has three staterooms for guests, two with queen sized beds and one with a king sized bed, and a fourth stateroom for her full time crew. Each cabin has a large bathroom equipped with separate shower stalls and full sized fresh water flush electric toilets.
The catamaran is fully air conditioned and has a high output reverse osmosis water maker powered by a whisper quiet generator.
Her spacious salon has the look of a high end apartment and is filled with natural light from the large forward and side facing windows which provide a panoramic view. A large flat screen TV with a DVD player faces the large settee and dining table. The galley is elegant and ergonomic and is equipped with high end appliances, including an ice maker. With the sliding salon door and the aft facing galley window open, the interior blends naturally with the outside.
The aft deck is shaded by a hard top bimini and is centered around the dining table with seating for eight and a built in refrigerator for guest's convenience. Her two sugar scoop swim platforms make entering the water a snap.
The forward deck with trampolines is a perfect place for lounging at anchor and is a fun place to hang out when underway.
Even with her comfortable accommodations and many amenities, Happy Time is a true performance sailing catamaran. She traveled from South Africa to the Caribbean on her own hull, ticking off over 250 miles per day for 9 consecutive days.
Join Happy Time and her crew for a fun, relaxing and delicious Caribbean yacht charter vacation.

Jeff & Caitlin
Captain Jeff and Chef Caitlin have travelled together throughout the world as dive instructors and in resort management before switching to the role of chartered yacht crew. They worked for the Moorings as crew for 2 years before graduating to the private, and have lots of experience finding those quiet anchorages where charter guests can relax or find world-class snorkeling.
Guests appreciate Jeff’s relaxed nature; he prides himself on his attention to safety as well as guest comfort. Caitlin’s energy is infectious – she’s as passionate about the marine world as she is about her food, having spent time as a caterer while also completing a degree in Marine Science.
Both Jeff and Caitlin are dive instructors, and excited to open up the underwater world to new divers!See reviews

Jeff & Caitlin were fantastic. Caitlin guided us on several snorkels. Great food. As good as the boat was, the crew was the boat’s best feature.
One person in our group can't have cheese so each meal they created special variation for her. Even baked cake the last morning so we could have "cake by the sea".
Really can't think of a single thing I would change with Sailing Directions’ service.

I'd give them a 9 - they were great! They were very friendly and upbeat, they were very good and kind to our kids.
Happy Time was very comfortable, clean and well ventilated. The bedrooms and bathrooms where a nice size and the front deck and trampoline area was very comfortable with the cushions and chairs.
The food was all very delicious and well presented. Caitlin made much of the food by scratch which was very impressive. Also enjoyed a new cocktail every evening made by Jeff.
We enjoyed the itinerary, went to a few new spots that we never had been to. Snorkeling was awesome with Caitlin’s guidance, she took us a couple times on guided tours and pointed out things that we would have missed if we were by ourselves.
You kept us on top of deadlines and with important information for the trip. I’ll surly recommend Sailing Directions and Happy Time if anyone asks.

Bryan and Ava were great with a nice mixture of being attentive when necessary and providing privacy other times. They were very knowledgeable and our group was constantly asking challenging questions which they answered very well. Bryan and Ava are a wonderful complimentary team!
Happy Time was very comfortable and well ventilated. A/C worked well in cabins. Favorite aspect was the spacious back-deck eating area. We played many games, drank, and dined well in that locale.
Food and variety of menu was excellent for all meals. We had a tree nut allergy amongst the party and they dealt with that perfectly. Bryan is an excellent grill master and we had several meals that were grilled to perfection (tuna steaks stand out)!
We worked closely with the crew to develop an itinerary and each day we went over options based on different preferences in our party. Worked great!
Sailing Directions is always our first stop when looking at chartered yacht vacations. We have always had good service and specifically John Lane’s communications and support is top notch! I am frequently giving Sailing Directions contact information out to anyone expressing interest.

We had an amazing time on our trip. Thanks so much for your assistance in finding a phenomenal captain, crew and yacht.
Brian and Ava were amazing from the very moment we met. They were attentive but not overbearing, they were professional, they were experts at their jobs, they were engaging, friendly, approachable. The list goes on!
Happy Time was in terrific condition. Very clean, well-appointed and well cared for. It was extremely comfortable for our family of 6. It was well ventilated.
We had read about Bryan's culinary skills, but I hadn't imagined he was so accomplished. Ava also prepared terrific meals. The food was fantastic and expertly prepared. They did a nice job of tailoring meals so that the pickier eaters in our group were also happy.
We very much enjoyed the itinerary. Although we had a general plan for the week, we would discuss our plan every day and fine tune it or change it depending on the desires of the group. Bryan was very accommodating and able to offer several alternative suggestions for each day's route.
We were very pleased with Sailing Directions. Finding the right crew for my family was a priority from the start and I feel like you really listened to me and help us make the perfect match.
I cannot emphasize enough the value added to our vacation experience because of Bryan and Ava. They were the perfect hosts for our week in the BVI. Bryan was incredibly knowledgeable and able to show us a few hidden gems. He was completely professional but also easy going and a pleasure to be around. He was a phenomenal dive master - so calm and calming especially given 5 of the 6 of us were newly certified. Ava was very professional and accommodating. She anticipated our needs and catered to everyone's individual tastes without being asked. She was great company and always eager to play a game with the kids.

Could not have asked for a better experience! This was a trip of a lifetime! We could not have asked for a better captain in Bryan and first mate, Frances. They were both delightful and yet professional, great personalities and so easy to be with! Happy Time is very comfortable, clean and well ventilated. We never felt like we were on top of each other, much roomier than we expected. This was a five star experience!

Just dropping by to say what a wonderful time we had on Happy Time last week. This was our first experience chartering a catamaran and we all agree it is something we are hoping to do again in the near future!
We enjoyed Bryan and Frances very much and found them to be hardworking and professional people. All efforts were made to make sure we were enjoying our time on the boat, from the delicious meals each of them prepared to our amazing cruise itinerary.
Frances was especially attentive to our 18 year old twin girls and was so kind to snorkel with them, watch movies with them and just get to know them. We have stayed on many of the islands before this trip, but realize now there is no better way to experience the BVI!

I wanted to reach out and commend all of you in assisting us in having an absolutely wonderful vacation. John, you had all the answers to my pre trip question and expertly helped affirm our decision toward Happy Time and Captain Bryan. When I needed something answered you were prompt and right on. At times, when planning a vacation it becomes rather difficult. John you made it a breeze and in doing so, you gave us all the confidence we needed that our vacation would be spectacular.
Captain Bryan, we would like to thank you for a wonderful week! Your professionalism, attention to detail and your personality were an absolute pleasure to be around for a week! In addition, the cooking was five star quality as was the hosting by Stephanie.
We are so very glad that one of our criteria in selecting our boat was how well we thought we would get along with the crew. The second significant criteria was the quality and appearance of the boat. Steve, I would like to commend you and Bryan for Happy Time is in spectacular condition and Bryan and Stephanie work very hard on a daily basis to keep it that way. We all know the Caribbean is a spectacular place to visit. We feel not only did we spend a week in paradise but we did so in first class style aboard Happy Time.
We would do the exact same vacation again and hope to do so soon!

We had a truly wonderful time on the Happy Time. Bryan and Devin both were very friendly and accommodating. They were very good with my teenagers. The boat was well kept and clean. Meals were all fabulous. They went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. Would definitly recommend Sailing Directions and Happy Time to friends.

We had a fabulous time on Happy Time! Mel and Tom were great! The boat was awesome too! They were quite willing to work around things we wanted to do or see on our trip. Tom was awesome at taking us out to snorkel sights and explaining what we should look for and what we were seeing. Once back on the boat he would pull out a book to go over everything. The food was quite impressive! Very tasty and beautiful presentation.

Happy Time is available for charter in the Virgin Islands sailing from St Thomas in the USVI or Tortola in the BVI.
The advantage of meeting and leaving Happy Time on St Thomas is that there are numerous flight options to the St. Thomas airport (STT) with non-stop flights from many US cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Miami, Minneapolis, JFK, Newark, and Washington, D.C.
The main disadvantage of starting from St Thomas is you need to sail upwind to get to the most popular anchorages, and depending on where you wish to anchor, you may end up motor-sailing more at the beginning than if you started your week farther upwind in Tortola. Also you will need to clear in and out of BVI customs in West End on Tortola and back into US customs in at Cruz Bay on St. Johns when you return. This is not a big deal, and the crew will make the process super easy, but it does take a little time away from your itinerary.
The advantage of starting and ending your trip on Tortola is that you are right in the heart of the best sailing areas and anchorages, and you have less upwind sailing compared with sailing from St Thomas. Also, you get clearing customs out of the way at the airport.
The disadvantage to starting and ending on Tortola is that there are very limited flight options into and out of Tortola (flights to Tortola tend to be more expensive than flights to St Thomas), and if you're flying into St Thomas the ferry service between St Thomas and Tortola takes 50 to 70min (although this is not really a problem if you'er arriving the day before your charter, it's more of an issue if you're flying in on the day of the first day of your charter, in which case it would be better to meet the yacht in Red Hook, St Thomas).
Once aboard your sailing itinerary is completely flexible and your crew are on hand to make suggestions and customize the itinerary to your group's interests - it's time to relax and have some fun!
