John Rae and Lisa Kandes met while working in London for a large charity helping children in need. Three years ago they gave up London's city life to work and travel through out Central America and the Caribbean, eventually settling in the British Virgin Islands. They are a relaxed and friendly couple who will make you feel instantly at ease as they guide you through the azure waters of the BVI to unspoiled shores, secluded coves and sun drenched beaches.
John has always had a love of the ocean. A native of England with Irish and Scottish Heritage, John started sailing at the tender age of 11 and has been on the sea in some way ever since. He holds a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster ticket and has sailed extensively around the British coastline, Europe and the Caribbean.
John is also an experienced PADI SCUBA dive instructor and has, for the past two years, managed a dive shop in the British Virgin Islands where he has acquired an intimate knowledge of the islands both above and below the waterline.
He enjoys tailoring his extensive experience of the islands and their attractions to the individual tastes of his charter guests. His easy going nature blends naturally with the Caribbean way of living and his consummate professionalism will ensure your Caribbean adventure is safe as well as fun.
Lisa grew up by the Devonshire coastline in the South of England. She trained in the nearby Ashburton Culinary School in fine cooking and has worked in restaurants in London and Central America.
She is an Advanced Open Water diver with a keen interest in marine life. Lisa is a warm and enthusiastic crew member who is devoted to preparing creative, delicious meals at every sitting. She is dedicated to making your time on Moon Shadow a breathtaking experience and is always ready to run the extra mile to make your time on board an enjoyable one.

Our week aboard "Moon Shadow" for my 50th birthday was a dream come true! Our hosts, Cap'n John & First Mate/Chef Lisa were there 100% of the time, giving me, my wife, and our two kids Jesse (aged 11) and Gianna (aged 8) a fantastic, magical, wonderful vacation.

My kids Loved the dingy-powered watersports and extra-special attention they received! One of my best days was diving the Rhone, just Cap'n John and I, all alone. John knew just when to dive there when all the other divers were away. Plus...he took pictures of me on the wreck that I have hanging in my office today!
My family enjoyed this trip tremendously. What a spectacular way to visit the BVIs and be pampered all along the way.

The charter was absolutely the best vacation I have ever had. We were three couples celebrating our respective 20th year anniversaries and we were blown away by the beauty of the BVIs, the accommodations aboard the Encore, and most importantly the service provided by John and Lisa.
