Tachyon maintains its Caribbean charter operations in the Virgin Islands, a string of dozens of U.S and British islands that lay in a trail along the northeastern corner of the Caribbean Sea. These islands represent some of the best cruising grounds in the world for a number of reasons:
Perfect Conditions. The Virgins are famous for their steady trade winds and warm, clear water. Fifteen to 25 knots of breeze is considered the norm and provides ideal conditions for cruising, and almost everywhere you go, you can jump off the back of the yacht with a snorkel mask on and see fantastic coral, fish, rays and even turtles.
Smooth Sailing. The sailing is of the 'line-of-sight' variety, meaning that coastal piloting, or navigation, is accomplished visually with ease. To state simply, you can see the island or anchorage that you are sailing toward. The proximity of the islands to one another offers an abundance of sailing opportunities. You can choose to sail for an hour or two a day and spend a larger percentage of you time in a harbor (snorkeling, swimming, etc.), or you can spend more time sailing and passage making. The topography allows for a great deal of flexibility within a given itinerary, and you can choose to do as much or as little sailing as you desire.
Easy Anchoring. Anchoring is a simple, quick and safe endeavor, thanks to the experience of your professional crew (and a top-of-the-line Delta anchor), and also to pre-set mooring balls in a vast majority of the major anchorages. There are dozens of safe harbors in the region that provide simple and safe anchoring and mooring opportunities.
An Explorer's Playground. The reefs in the region are some of the worlds best for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and more. There is an abundance of fresh fish, lobster and beautiful coral for you to enjoy when in harbor. Another attraction for divers is the wreck of the RMS Rhone, a British mail and passenger ship that sunk in a hurricane in 1867. The Rhone is widely considered the best wreck dive in the Caribbean and you can dive to see it right off the back of the boat, or you can snorkel over the shallower stern section (about 40 feet deep).
Escape Daily Life, Love the Night Life. On shore there are many different forms of entertainment, day and night. The islands offer rich historical culture and tradition as well as great hiking, shopping and sightseeing. The nightlife in the region can be as quiet or as rowdy as you choose. There are numerous restaurants, clubs and beachside cantinas that will satisfy anyone's nocturnal habits. Quiet anchorages are also readily available for those who want a vacation away from civilization. As always, it's up to you where we go and what we do on your vacation.
Keep in mind that while we have several different standard itineraries, we will take you to wherever you want to go in the Virgin Islands. We'll pull out the charts on your first day onboard, and come up with a customized itinerary for you (which can be altered at any time during your trip) so that you can be sure to get to every spot you want to go.
We have selected the Virgin Islands as our starting point because we feel that they allow us to offer you, our client, the most choices and best sailing for your own personalized vacation.
Your itinerary is completely flexible depending on how active or relaxed you would like to be during your charter. Prior to your vacation the crew will be in touch to introduce themselves and discuss an itinerary outline with you. Ultimately this is your private yacht, so you can change your plans and stay longer in an area, or head off to new shores whenever you'd like - it is entirely up to you.
