Bernie and Angie, the crew of Secret Oasis, are an adventurous and easy-going couple with an exuberant passion for nature and the ocean. Together they will make your vacation an unforgettable and a once in a lifetime experience. They both grew up in the coastal town of Somerset West near Cape Town, South Africa.
Bernie's love for sailing and watersports was instilled in him at an early age by his father, who was the commodore of the local yacht club. Bernie's sailing career began at the young age of 8 years old when he competed in local sailing regattas. As a teenager Bernie started surfing and it quickly became an integral part of his life. This is also when he met Angie and taught her to sail and surf and they sailed together as a team on a Hobie 16.
After graduating, Bernie moved to larger offshore sailing boats where he delivered various yachts in transatlantic voyages. Upon obtaining his Yacht Master Ocean, Bernie was drawn into the super yacht industry where he spent several years sailing all over the world before he became a charter yacht captain in the BVI.
Besides Bernie's enthusiasm for sailing and surfing, he is also a certified NAUI Open Water Diver. All these things continue to draw him to the majestic BVI, which offers world class sailing, diving and surfing. Bernie's enthusiasm, experience and relaxed personality will add to an unforgettable vacation.
Angie has grown up in the outdoors and her love for nature and an active lifestyle was rooted deep within her from an early age. She was brought up around powerboats and learnt to waterski as a young girl. After meeting Bernie, who introduced her to sailing and surfing, her passion for the ocean only intensified.
Her outdoor lifestyle stimulated her fascination with natural science that led her to study geology at the University of Stellenbosch. During her studies Angie worked part-time as an au pair and she loves children. Angie's knowledge of the hospitality industry, and passion for food and wine, was nurtured by her surroundings growing up in her family-run Cape wine lands guesthouse and beauty spa.
After obtaining her PhD in Geology from the University of Stellenbosch, Angie and Bernie set out to nurture their shared love for the ocean by chartering in the British Virgin Islands. Angie is enthusiastic to share her knowledge of the natural history of the beautiful British Virgin Islands and her friendly and outgoing personality promises to help you relax and make you feel at ease onboard crewed catamaran Secret Oasis.
