Gordon Monsen, your Skipper is 58 and started sailing at the age of 12 in an old wooden sloop which he bought for ten dollars in Cape Town, South Africa. He has represented South Africa in World Competitions in Hawaii, France, the USA and at home, and raced the 1993 Cape-to-Rio Trans-Atlantic. He is a qualified marine surveyor for Lloyds of London and specialized in marine losses.
Gordon has sailed in excess of 100,000 nautical miles, has completed 8 major ocean crossings and has worked, chartered and sailed the islands of the Caribbean for 10 years, from Trinidad in the south to the British Virgin Islands in the north.
Hobbies and interests are, predictably, sailing and meeting interesting people, water-sports and reading.
Sandra Johnson, your chef, was raised in California, has made her home on the water since 1999 - beginning with a voyage from Alaska to California in her 33' Islander sailboat. Now living in the Caribbean she uses her culinary talents to support charter operations in the Virgin Islands. Sandra has worked with food in remote Alaskan lodges, upscale dinner houses in San Francisco, managed quaint coffee houses and now enjoys creating Caribbean menus with a unique Island flair.
Jacque Van Wyngaardt, Mate, at age 24 is the newest crew member to join Liberte, Jacque was born in East London, South Africa.
Along with his sailing talents, Jacque also has developed proficiencies in almost the entire spectrum of water sports including PADI certification, water skiing, snorkeling, tubing and much more to help our guests enjoy their time aboard.
He can identify a fish in a flash, zip guests to a secluded beach in one of our RIB tenders with ease and bring a smile to your face while serving a refreshing cocktail on deck. Jacque is enthusiastic and eager to do all he can to make our guests relaxed while sharing his passion for sailing and love of the sea.
