Meet the Crew

Tasos, Nella & Nathan

Captain Anastasios, better known as Tasos, was born in the land of myth and sailing history, the beautiful Greek Islands.

His professional career as a Captain had a humble start aboard a Lagoon 38 sailing his native waters. Over the next few years he developed his sailing skills and experience by embarking on cruising courses in the Western Mediterranean, European and Atlantic waters, eventually completing a transatlantic crossing.

With many thousands of sea miles under his belt, Tasos joined the Moorings in the BVI for the winter season of 2014 and a brief sojourn in Europe to explore Croatia during the summer of 2014.

Delighted to be doing what he loves for both summer and winter, Tasos soon became a popular captain for The Moorings in the BVI while also keeping busy in the Mediterranean waters during the Summer months.

Tasos is not only an experienced yacht captain, he is also proficient in many other water sports including stand-up paddle boarding, wake boarding and snorkeling to name just a few.

Tasos is also fluent or very comfortable speaking Greek, Portuguese, Spanish and English, which should make the majority of his guests feel at home.

In 2016 his valuable experience in the yachting industry on both private and charter yachts was noted, and in early 2017 he was recruited to join Aoibh, along with his wonderful partner Nella Gutesa...read more

Chef Nella has been in the marine industry almost her whole working life, starting with hostess and concierge duties at an upmarket island marina in Croatia for a couple of summer seasons.

Nellas cooking career began as the chef/stewardess on a Lagoon 38 chartering in the Aegean. It was during this period that she learned all the other skills necessary for a crew member on a yacht at sea.

Expanding her cooking repertoire and improving her skills as a mariner became paramount for Nella as she upgraded to a much larger Lagoon 56. Cruising the Bay of Biscay, the Spanish and Portuguese Atlantic coastlines, the Mediterranean Sea and Balearic Islands and eventually the warmer waters of the Caribbean.

Nella had a change of pace when she was hired as the Sous Chef onboard a 115ft Benetti motor yacht. Of course her duties not only required her culinary skills, but along with the galley work she was stewardess, inventory manager, and deckhand, handling the lines and driving the tender.

Most recently, Nella has been the chef on board a Robertson & Caine 58 with her partner Captain Tasos and one other crew member, working for The Moorings in the BVI.

Nella is a motivated and approachable professional who is fulfilling her dreams of a life at sea filled with fun and adventure.

Mate Nathan is from South Africa. He is passionate about the charter industry, sailing and ensuring his guests enjoy a most memorable time aboard. He believes a professional crew should have both a strong work ethic and excellent team membership skills. In addition to his first-rate guest services and mate duties, Nathan is more than happy to assist throughout the yacht whether it is the galley or cabin detail, he has an enthusiastic and outgoing personality. In his free time, Nathan makes the most of being active, staying fit and progressing further qualifications.

Christmas 2016 - The best holiday ever!
Dear Ivan, Chrissy and Nathan
THank you so much for a fabulous week.
We loved all the sailing around the islands - especially Sandy Cay. We loved all the food and will remember our lobster Christmas dinner and frozen chocolate orange for quite some time to come.
Nathan, we loved all the activities. The wakeboarding, kayaking, paddle boarding, scuba diving, snorkeling and our attempt to save the baby duckling!
Thank you so much for all of you making this a trip to remember- and for saving us so many times.

Barbuda, Caribbean charter
We had a great time. This could be the shortest charter on record. I think we moved 2 miles. :)
The reason we didnt move much is because the wind and the location were awesome for kiting. We kited every day. When we were not kiting we went snorkeling, swimming and tubing. All in all, we had a great time. The crew was great. Great personality fit with our family. They were professional, yet casual and approachable. The food was great. Vicky is a very good cook who takes her craft very seriously and with great pride. I would recommend the Aoibh and the crew to a friend - that is probably the best thing I can say.

New Year 2015/16

SY AOIBH / BVI / New Year 2015/16
Aug 2 - 8 2015 Italy
Our trip was spectacular and honestly, exceeded my expectations in every way. We were welcomed with a champagne reception. AOIBH was beautiful, modern, spacious and absolutely spic and span clean. The water toys were great and certainly were used daily. Our crew was fabulous; Fabio was attentive, great with guidance and always interested in our opinions on the itinerary du jour. He selected some beautiful, local wines that we enjoyed every day. Lynda, our cook-good GOD-she is incredible. Our family is a family of utter foodies; we seek out amazing restaurants and cook a lot at home. Given my Italian father and upbringing, we especially love good, proper Italian food. Lyndas cooking was outrageously good. Everything she made was outstanding. Her food was so amazing (I dare say, better than any restaurant we dined at while on the Amalfi Coast the week before-and we ate at some lovely restaurants) that we had no interest in getting off at any ports to have food in town. Rather, we ate every meal onboard. This truly added a special touch to an already lovely trip. She went out of her way to meet our few food allergies- her cooking was like a week of a 5 star dining experience. Fabulous! Gemma was lovely as well-always attentive and proactive in making sure we had everything we needed-setting beautiful tables at meal times, etc. The crew was a delight to have around-another nice touch to our trip.

Sardinia and the nearby archipelago was just stunning. Weather and water temperaturesperfect. We travel a lot and are fortunate to have done some amazing trips. All wholeheartedly agreed that this experience was tied for first place on our list of favorite trips. We will certainly look to book again with this crew and boat (or LIR). The water life in the Caribbean is more vibrant than in the Med-so we may look at that locale. We consider ourselves so lucky to have found this boat, crew and locale in what was the 11th hour. Thank you for all of your assistance with putting it together. We absolutely loved everything. Please, if you would, send our thanks to the owner as well.
