Meet the Crew

Gio, Renee & Jeff

Gio is a knowledgeable and friendly Captain who enjoys connecting people with the sea. Born and raised in London, his career began teaching sailing and windsurfing all over the world, before moving to Australia to become a marine biologist, conducting research and guiding marine wildlife tours. Eventually he bought his own 50ft sailboat and used it to sail documentary filmmaking expeditions thousands of miles around the Caribbean, resulting in work published by National Geographic. He is also an expert freediver and a PADI Divemaster. Gio takes great pride in ensuring the highest levels of safety onboard while helping guests to have the adventure of a lifetime.

Renee is a friendly Colorado girl passionate about creating healthy, first class dining experiences. After completing her degree in Education, she spent time teaching both physics outdoor pursuits. She has been working onboard sailing yachts for several years, mostly in the British Virgin Island and is also a PADI Dive Instructor. Renee places huge importance in connecting with each individual guest onboard her vessel, in order to identify and satisfy their own unique wants and needs. You will feel spoiled and well looked after under her care. Be sure to check out her sample menu.

Jeffrey has lived onboard boats, snorkeling, scuba diving, and exploring the island, since he was young. He is a skilled sailor and scuba diver, and works as Lolalita's PADI Dive Instructor, deckhand, dinghy-driver, dishwasher, and disco-dancer! He can't wait to fill your tanks (he swears his air tastes better than any other!) and lead you on your next dive! Jeff also holds a USCG Captain's license.

\"I thought last year was fantastic - this year was even better!\"
Enjoying a second trip onboard Lolalita, cruising the Spanish Virgin Islands:

"This past week we were blessed to enjoy a trip with all of our kids on board the lovely Lolalita. Lance and I enjoy traveling and greatly appreciate good customer service. I've never meet a group of people like the crew of Lolalita. They go WAY above & beyond to make sure you are enjoying yourself. You board as a guest and leave as family. I thought last year was fantastic - this year was even better! Megan definitely rivals the best chefs around the world! Ernie is always thinking about your comfort as a guest. It's like he's a mind-reader: before you can ask a question he's already on it. I've never seen a group of people work so hard, always on the go and always a genuine smile and ready to help. Ernie, Megan, and Jeff: we love you guys like family and can't wait for our adventure next year. Every time our family plays Papelitos we will cherish the awesome crew of Lolalita!"

\"Lolalita is the head turner in every anchorage\"
Lolalita- beautiful vessel. Carefully maintained. It is the head turner in every anchorage.

Diving- this was exactly what I wanted. We got to the best sites and dove on our schedule. Tanks and compressor are onboard. (the only way to go) Ernie and Jeff briefed us perfectly. The compressor on board had a part fail (happens to every boater), and they never missed a beat, running tanks to and from fills.

Megan- We have all experienced a restaurant where the creativity, taste, and presentation of a particular dish caused us to compliment the chef. It is no exaggeration to say we had such an experience 3 times a day for a week. Unbelievable. One of our group has severe food allergies. Megan prepared special dishes for her all week. It was the first time in years that she felt comfortable eating whatever was prepared for her. However, I hold Megan personally responsible for my 6 lb weight gain. She is also sweet, beautiful, intelligent, and a gracious hostess. But other than those flaws, I liked her.

Jeff- We all fell in love with Jeff. We asked if we could take him home with us. They gave us T-shirts instead. Oh well.

Ernie- This is a very knowledgeable and dedicated Captain. I owe him an apology for all my questions about boats, his life, etc. He is also just a lot of fun to be with. He and his family made us feel like welcome guests on their boat. By the end, we considered them friends and feel the urge to invite them on our next adventure, whatever it is. I have never chartered before, but I have to believe it is the better experience to be on a boat operated by its owners.

As for the rest, what goes on Lolalita stays on Lolalita, but as I told the group during the trip, when I die, Im coming back as Ernie.

\"It truly was the kind of vacation dreams are made of...\"
"Six stars out of five! 11 out 10! However you want to rate a holiday, a cruise aboard the Lolalita is the sailing vacation of a lifetime.

The yacht is as majestic as the blue waters of the BVI! Captain Ernie, Chef Megan and the crew are impressive, professional and a lot of fun.

The crews attention to detail is remarkable; nothing was overlooked as we sailed from island to island, reef to reef. They guided us through a magical trip filled with gourmet meals, scuba diving, snorkeling, beautiful beaches and more.

We enjoyed every second on the Lolalita and feel lucky to have met such an incredible sailing team. We recommend the Yacht Lolalita to anyone wanting an exceptional, luxurious sailing experience in the BVI.

P.S. I really had a great time learning to scuba dive when I was aboard the Lolalita... I now plan on getting my scuba diving certificate over the summer!"

"Last week was one of the very best of my life, and Robs too. We keep pinching ourselves, trying to believe that it really happened but the fact that were STILL swaying with the boat helps remind us that it did. It truly was the kind of vacation dreams are made of and you all worked so hard to make it a special kind of magic for each of us. (The shark rescue hooray!!) You guys are incredibly talented and lovely and awesome. We miss the boat, we miss your delicious cooking, we miss paradise and we miss hanging out and laughing with all of you! Thank you so, so much for giving us the experience of a lifetime!"

\"We have made memories that will never be forgotten.\"
We just returned from our vacation on Lolalita- what a wonderful time we had. Capt Ernie, Chef Megan, and crew did a great job and really took good care of us. The boat was spotless; the food and the crew attitude were exceptional. Our 7-year-old granddaughter was part of our family group and she had a ball! The crew went out of their way to make this an enjoyable trip for her and our whole family. Thank you for matching us with the Lolalita and the Schlobohms. We have made memories that will never be forgotten.

\"The atmosphere of fun, adventure, respect for the natural environment made the whole week come alive.\"
We had a great time with Ernie and Megan. We also enjoyed their crew, Jeffrey and Aileen. The yacht is spectacular and they go to great pains to maintain it that way. We were exceptionally comfortable. Ernie and Megan were warm and funny and engaging and we felt like we were in good hands the whole trip. Our group had chartered before so we had some pretty specific requests about routes and anchorages and they were more than willing to accommodate as well as to suggest wonderful new options to us. Five in our group did the Discovery Dive course and enjoyed the varied dives offered even at this beginner level. My photographer husband was given lots of opportunities to challenge his skills including a trip up the mast for ariel pics and a tender ride-a-long to take pictures of Lolalita at full sail. The food was fantastic! Varied, fresh and plentiful. And with our group full of active young adults, quantity is important! And the atmosphere of fun, adventure, respect for the natural environment made the whole week come alive. We would highly recommend Lolalita and her crew if anyone is chartering in the area.

\"This trip was spectacular, was the best we have ever experienced.\"
The trip was absolutely amazing! The boat, crew, weather, food, service, variety of activities, planning and diving were awesome and we never wanted for anything.

The boat was well maintained, immaculate and exceeded expectations. A truly elegant and well maintained lady. My wife slept better during the trip than she has in at least a year.

Ernie, Megan and Jeff treated us with great care, attention and a high level of personal service. They had the perfect balance of being engaged with us and leaving us alone too.

They offered so many options of things to do each day which made each day special and we felt like each day was a "mini vacation".

We enjoy diving as a family and Lolalita took us to at least two different dive sites each day and the diving was spectacular. They helped with all the gear, dive site briefing and ran a very safe dive operation.

We hiked, toured, dove, combed beaches, toured in the tender, swam, paddle boarded, kayaked, sailed, played games at night (laughed our butts off) and had some truly memorable meals and even got liquored up on a few nights!

This trip was spectacular, was the best we have ever experienced, and we have done some wonderful trips. We renewed our wedding vows as the sun set on the last night and Ernie did a great job of officiating the ceremony. This was a great way to end the trip.

Megan's meals and attention to detail was great. Each meal was special, done first class and their service was top notch. She decorated the table with each meal which was a nice touch.

Jeff guided our island hikes and tours and was really funny. He was a great help in all areas.

When the trip was over, we felt like Ernie, Megan and Jeff were family.

Do you get the feeling we had fun? :)

 \"We can\'t wait to return.\"
The entire crew was absolutely delightful to be with. The catamaran was beautiful. All of the sleeping quarters were comfortable and the living and relaxing space was perfect. The daily room tidy was a great bonus as well. The bean bags at the front of the catamaran are a great addition. We all enjoyed sailing and relaxing on them. The catamaran was well ventilated and comfortably air conditioned.

The food was amazing! Chef Megan created palate pleasing surprises for every meal. She even tempted some people to eat food that they wouldn't eat before. Her presentation was outstanding as well. Captain Ernie did a great job creating an itinerary with eight people that were not quick to make a decision. He incorporated fun stops and beautiful scenic locations. Furthermore, he was very accommodating when we had last minute requests for stops. Once we all learned that we enjoyed sailing he added sailing time as well.

I would highly recommend Lolalita. Our charter was a journey that we all will not forget. It will be difficult to have such a unique and special vacation experience again. (except when we return) The catamaran, the food and the people are wonderful. The crew was so receptive to our needs. They assisted with island exploration, snorkeling and scuba diving. They made scuba possible for one intermediate diver and two beginners. Their training, support and compassion made it possible. Their two kayaks and paddle board were fun additions at the beautiful, tranquil aqua waters and white sand coves. We can't wait to return.

\"The Lolalita was perfect in every way.\"
Dear Captain Ernie, Gourmet Chef Megan, and Matester Jeffrey,

We couldnt let this week pass by without writing to tell you all how much we enjoyed the charter with you. From the time we hit the deck, you all went out of your way to make us feel welcome and part of the Lolalita experience.

Captain Ernies navigation skills and knowledge of the BVIs are incredible, and Chef Megans cuisine was 5-star delicious. Jeff was always on hand to assist all of us whether we chose to scuba, snorkel, or just getting around on and off the Lolalita. You all are such good people, and we enjoyed your boundless energy and positive attitudes.

The Lolalita as a yacht was perfect in every way. Beautifully appointed and comfortable with every imagined amenity.

This trip was on [my husband's] bucket list besides celebrating a milestone birthday. He loved everything about the charter, and especially all of the crews talents. So did the rest of our group, and we hope we will be able to sail with you again.

Returning to 5 degree weather, we were reminded of how lucky we were while in your company and exploring the BVIs. This experience with you all will sustain us through tax season and we will keep in touch by email.

Thank you for welcoming us to your yacht and taking such good care of all of us. All the best in 2014!

\"Lolalita should be on the very top of your list for charters!\"
Lolalita should be on the very top of your list for charters! To begin: Ernie, Megan and Jeff could not have been more gracious, helpful, imaginative and pleasant to be around. As you know we chartered with our three children ages; 25, 24 and 20. All of which have since commented on how much fun they had and how much they enjoyed being around the crew. Ernie's personality and sense of humor were pleasant and engaging to be around the entire trip. Megan was spectacular with all meals, each was a mini celebration! Megan's gentle personality mixed with broad understanding of the waters made for a wonderful combination. We requested healthy meals during our stay, she managed to not only make them healthy, but excited the gourmands in our family. Jeff's contributions were thoroughly enjoyed by my children and also by Linda and I. His attentiveness, knowledge and assistance during our many snorkeling adventures, as well as transportations for nightlife made the trip exciting.

The sailing was done in an expert manner, even given the myriad of questions we were asking while underway. The Lolalita herself is expertly maintained, warm and very comfortable. She is easy to get around on and smooth under sail.

Thank you so much for steering me toward Lolalita! We would highly recommend them with out any reservations.

\"There cannot be a crew that is more fun, more experienced, and more knowledgeable.\"
There cannot be a crew that is more fun, more experienced, and more knowledgeable. Captain Ernie is just one really knowledgeable man. Hes a young 43-year old, and he knows all the ins and outs of his boat. You can tell he has a dozen+ years of experience as a sailor. We started our vacation once on board with a safety brief and Ernie spoke for about 30 minutes instructing us all on how to move around the boat, what was expected of us, what they would do, etc. Just safety and precautions. But, he was informative, funny and never pretentious or hard-headed. He had our best interests in mind and you could really tell that.

Megan, the chef and first-mate, was so very nice and cool. Every meal was truly gourmet and to die for. Seriously everything was that good. Breakfasts were continental-style, with a choice of pretty much everything you could want, and a great way to start off the day. Megan even took the time and effort to make special meals for me because of some dislikes I have for certain condiments. No problems at all she even mentioned that if we had any issues or any requests everything would be handled accordingly. She was great and it was a nice complement to her husband, Ernie.

Jeffrey, the son of Ernie and Megan, is a fine 20-year-old with considerable knowledge of sailing and most everything he has learned from his parents. We learned he is about a year away from getting his captains license and for good reason he knows about 80% of what his father does and Ernie knows about everything!!!

Ernie and Megan and Jeffrey went night-swimming with us (with giant tarpon under the lights of the boat), we played cards together, Ernie taught us some drinking games (he never imbibed, but we sure did J) they were very social, yet always respectful of our time and space.

I can tell you this they really seemed more like family than a crew that was serving us. If we are ever fortunate enough to again charter a yacht for vacation and I hope we can we wont go with any other crew than from the LOLALITA. The boat is awesome, the crew is awesome, the experience is awesome.

\"The combination of this boat and crew is really special.\"
The trip was amazing! Lolalita is a really beautiful boat that is kept in pristine condition by Ernie, Megan and Jeff. We had a group of six and I think that was the perfect size for this boat. There was plenty of room to spread out. Ernie, Megan and Jeff were an awesome crew! Ernie had the perfect balance between being a tour guide with suggestions for daily activities and also just sitting back and letting us do our own thing. Megan is an excellent cook and did an amazing job keeping the boat looking like a 5-star hotel. She also is a really great person to hang out with and I had a lot of fun getting to know her. Jeff is just an all-around great guy. He was a patient and professional SCUBA instructor, a laid-back and fun friend on the boat and always hard at work with a smile and warm demeanor. I think the combination of this boat and crew is really special and would be great for a wide variety of groups from families with young children to people looking to party and older adults looking for relaxing vacation. I hope to spend time on the Lolalita again soon.

My new husband and I had a great time! I have only great things to say about Megan, Ernie, and Jeff. Megan is an amazing chef and photographer. I enjoyed getting to know Megan, she is a sweet lady. Ernie- Funny! We had fun with Ernie. Jeff- He was like the groups little brother. We had fun with Jeff. He has a great personality. He is a really great dive instructor and guide.

We decided to get married on the trip 4 days before we left for the trip. I bought a dress 5 hours before our flight. Ernie woke up early on Thursday of the trip and made a heart out of rocks in the sand, he gathered a palm and sea grape leaves to make my bouquet. Megan helped the girls and I get ready; she provided my something borrowed bracelet. She made the perfect wedding dessert! Jeff drove the wedding dinghy to Sandy Spit. Megan and Ernie took some beautiful pictures which I already have hanging in my home.

Overall, amazing trip with amazing people! I would love to go again some day.

\"We had the time of our lives.\"
We had the time of our lives. We felt very safe and confident with Captain Ernie - he always put our needs and requests front and foremost. Megan was wonderful, and Jeff was an asset in that we hd 2 guests that needed extra assistance.

The crew took such care of the boat and us. Our linens were changed, towels always clean and dry and everything was spic and span

We had very good air conditioning - not too cold. We spent as much time outside as possible. The rainy day we had, we were all very comfortable and it was not stuffy at all.

Megan really paid attention to our requests for healthy and delicious food. Her menus were well thought out and took extra care if there was an allergy issue. Her presentation was outstanding!

The area we sailed- beautiful! Captain Ernie made sure we saw all the highlights and we made a few of our own.

I was very happy that we had 3 crew aboard the boat the size of Lolalita. Ernie, Megan and Jeff all contributed to ensure that we had a fun, memorable and safe trip. We were very grateful that Jeff was aboard as we had a couple of people who had physical limitations. Jeff made sure they were able to participate in snorkeling, kayaking and swimming. He accompanied people to the front and back of the boat, all with a smile and a genuine caring. You can tell that Megan loves food - we had great chats about her menus and how she prepared various dishes. Catching fish for dinner one night was amazing. Megan's presentation was almost an art form. The other nice touches with the themed table settings, accompanying cocktails and the cocktail snacks were on par with some of he best places I have dined in the world. Ernie knows his stuff! We felt great in his care. He knew his way around the BVIs and took us to places we didn't even know existed. In choppy seas he managed to continue a smooth sail. We recommend him to anyone.

\"Everything you could want in a private charter.\"
Without a doubt all three of our crew bent over backwards to keep the two of us and our four legged family member happy! Megan is a wiz, especially having to cook out of a galley kitchen. We requested healthy low fat, low carb meals, lots of fruit and salads.

Her dressings were amazing and her cookies and crme Brule were to die for! Of course we couldnt always eat healthy!

They absolutely exceeded our expectations. The food portions, they were immense, but we also are hungry divers and asked for big portions. Every plate was beautifully presented! I have owned restaurants and have culinary training, and I took pictures of some plates! Everything we requested that they could get on the Island was on board. Not to mention Ernies famous banana daiquiris!

We felt at home, free to help ourselves to whatever we wanted, but we never needed to- they were always there to serve us first.

What a beautiful yacht! Everything you could want in a private charter. Especially the hot water, Air-conditioning and separate shower and bathroom. The boat was in great condition throughout the trip. So Comfortable!

Of course weather and wind are driving factors, but Ernie explained from the beginning what our options were and we were in agreement. What stands in our memories is how beautiful the scenery was, how peaceful it is on the water, how sweet and accommodating Megan, Ernie and Jeff were!

Just the peace and quiet and the beauty was the WOW factor of our week! The night out with Megan, Ernie and Jeff at Skinny Legs was pretty memorable.

The only thing I needed more of was Megans cookies!

Reviews for Lolalita with previous crew:

The service quality was excellent and the food even better! The boat was very clean and in great repair.

John, you were extremely helpful and prompt. I could not have ask for better service. I would use Sailing Directions again without hesitation!

We loved the Lolalita and the crew. They were the best. They helped make our trip so memorable.

Lolalita was very comfortable. It was very clean and I loved how Megan attended to every detail to make sure we were well taken care.

We loved the food. Megan is a great cook and tried to meet our different preferences. We were constantly amazed of how she could come up with such delicious food.

Captain Ernie was in constant dialogue with us of what and where we wanted to go and do. He listened to our wants and tried to accommodate them as best as he could.

We weren't sure what to expect from our first crewed catamaran trip. We were very pleased with the whole trip. The Lolalita crew did all they could do to make our trip comfortable, fun and safe. We are still talking about how much we enjoyed the whole experience and especially how much we enjoyed meeting Ernie and his family. The cabins yet small but clean were very comfortable and the food was absolutely wonderful. Loved it. Ernie and Jeff were always there to lend an expert hand in assisting with our diving and snorkeling needs. The Lolalita is a beautiful catamaran and we will be back with Captain Ernie, Megan and Jeff. Thank you so much for a great trip. Will definitely recommend Lolalita.
