David & Janice Walters
David and Janice, having always immersed their family in a lifetime of outdoor adventures, moved to the Caribbean from North Carolina for their next adventure - sailing the Virgin Islands! With their two grown children and family's support they finally cut the cord from corporate America and now enjoy hosting and sharing their zest for sailing the Caribbean with each new group of charter guests they welcome aboard RS Cape.
David is a North Carolina State University graduate and has been a sales executive for leading technology companies, including Microsoft, for many years working with Fortune 500 clients. While being out on the water is his favorite activity, David is also an avid snow skier, hiker, mountain biker, and lifelong golfer. When David is off island he is likely to be hiking a new section of the Appalachian Trail or Dupont State Park, snow skiing in Park City or snowshoe or biking along the New River or Virginia Creeper Trails in Virginia. David loves to enjoy every moment of the day whether chilling out with morning coffee or getting the SUP's and kayaks out early. He will help guests make every minute of their trip count on or off the water.
Because of her love for the water, Janice always dreamed of being a mermaid..and now she gets the chance to be one! She spent a great deal of her childhood on Oak Island, NC where her family had a cottage. Janice's 1st experience sailing was at a young age with a family friend and even though that experience was a bit scary, she maintained her love of the water. Janice went on to take sailing lessons, swimming on a team for several years, lifeguarding at her community pool and anything else that kept her in the water...read more
While attending North Carolina State University David and Janice met and became college sweethearts. They married shortly after and had two children, Steven and Jessica, who are the most important part of their lives and their two canine loves Cali and Stella. The kids were practically raised on the water with the family spending almost every weekend and available weekdays on their boat. Whenever possible, the family loved having their friends and family over while boating and enjoyed getting together a large spread of food for everyone. Off boat season the family is known for hosting fun, neighborhood get-togethers for watching their beloved Carolina Panthers or NC State Wolfpack football games.
Janice and David both have their USCG Captain's 100 Ton Masters licenses, STCW95 and Red Cross / CPR certifications and you will see both of them working in the galley. Janice's cooking was influenced growing up on the NC beaches. Steeped in the tradition of southern seafood recipes from Southport and Oak Island as well as "handed dow" recipes from mom and grandmother, Janice's cuisine is infused with the freshest of Caribbean fare. David works his magic on the grill and will insure that guests always have the newest favorite Caribbean drink in hand.
Eager to help guests create some of their own favorite island memories, David and Janice have several of their own from sailing in the islands over the years. Some of their favorite moments were that first sail into Anegada, the jeep ride to the remote Cow Wreck Beach Bar, a private, long anniversary walk on the seven mile beach there, then being invited to a local "Jump Up" in the settlement where overlooking the Caribbean, they enjoyed a delicious lobster dinner with the boat framed in the background at Potters by the Sea. They also remember their first swim up to Soggy Dollar Bar and playing the ring toss on the beach with Bushwhackers in hand!
Janice and David look forward to helping guests experience their own personal daily adventures whether it is a great island hike to some of the ruins and mountain top vistas, a special snorkel or that favorite local hidden beach bar. They will strive to make sure guests see more of the Caribbean treasures than ever and will not be satisfied until they discover their own magic moments!
No question though, David and Janice's favorite part of the charter day is having sails up, hearing nothing but the wind and waves blending in with some Caribbean tunes, and chilling with new friends making way underway.

We had a wonderful time during our Virgin Islands cruise on R S Cape. David and Janice Walters were perfect hosts and did everything possible to make the trip enjoyable. David went above and beyond expectations by accompanying us on 3 hikes in the Virgin Island "mountains". Janice is wonderful company and a great Chef. We hope to connect with them again.

Scott and Renee were fabulous! Very friendly, very knowledgeable about the area and all the locations we visited. They attended to every need and anticipated our wants/needs. They planned out the perfect itinerary and made great suggestions for excursions/restaurants/bars, etc.
The boat was beautiful - very well maintained and clean. We loved the top deck area - we spent a lot of time up there.
The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. Truly a real chef experience. Renee went out of her way to ensure we all had what we liked and paid attention to our particular likes/dislikes. We did not have one bad meal. It was all fresh, tasty and almost too pretty to eat.
The itinerary was perfect! Just the right mix of action and relaxation and great snorkeling spots.
We were very happy with the service that we received from Sailing Directions.
