Crew Profile

Captain: Robin Winn Nationality: British

Robin holds a MCA 3000-ton Licence Class VI, GMDSS Licence, CMAS and PADI Rescue Diver, and a Certificate of Service as Third Mate of foreign going ship. Robin hails from Dorset, South England but now resides in the South of France where he enjoys rugby, golf, Formula 1 and motorcycling.

After spending ten years with the Merchant Marine, he has since spent the past thirty-four years working in the Yachting Industry where he has worked extensively on both charter and private vessels and has sailed over 250,000 miles. He has also captained M/Y Daydream S/Y Mirabella 1, M/Y Ramses, M/Y Picante, S/Y Cinderella and S/Y Provenance to name a few. His immense knowledge and experiences make for great story telling and interesting facts about the sea and the countries we visit.

Robin's main objective is to fulfil the highest expectations of owners, guests and to obtain respect and loyalty from both guests and crew. Robin has an excellent sense of humour and is dedicated and enthusiastic about the sea and his team on board This Is Us.

Mate: Jean Rossouw Nationality: South African

Jean holds his Master 200gt and is working towards his Chief Mate certification amongst his many other qualifications.

Jean grew up in a small fishing town on the Garden route of South Africa; working on his dad's fishing vessels and diving for local restaurants. After school he went off to university to finish his degree in Investment Management at the University of Stellenbosch. Shortly after joining the fast paced world of the Financial Industry he found that the ocean was calling again. He went traveling the world and quickly found his place in the yachting industry. ..read more

When not on deck, you can find without Jean surfing or any other water sport, skating or playing his guitar. Jean adds a skill set to the crew that 'This is Us' would simply not be able to live.

Engineer: Stephen Bannon Nationality: Australian

Steve has over four years of experience in the yachting industry. He holds a Certificate 3 in Systems Electrotechnology, MCA Approved Engine Course (AEC) and RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Certification.

Steve originates from Melbourne Australia however has spent a considerable amount of time in Palma, Mallorca where he now resides. He has over 8 years' experience as a certified electrician working in both Australia and the UK. Steve has now focused his career as an engineer and is enjoying the travelling, lifestyle and challenges the industry brings.

Steve can speak Spanish and enjoys listening to music. He loves being fit and will get involved in any fitness or sporting activity. Steve has a great team spirit and energy that radiates through the crew and guests alike.

Chef: Elizabeth Gerber Nationality: South African

A South African Chef, Lizelle fell in love with sailing 7 years ago after finishing a four year High French culinary course and working in the top restaurants of South Africa. After her Studies she worked and trained as a wine sommelier where she gained grate experience pairing food and wine. She has worked on both Sail and Motor Super yachts, where she has cooked for many high profile owners and guests.

Her culinary style is fresh, healthy and flavour driven, influenced by her travels. From Asian, Mediterranean, Indian, Mexican, you name it and she can make it.

Liz enjoys sourcing the best ingredients, producing healthy, flavourful creations to tempt you and makes a point of keeping up to speed with culinary and dietary trends allowing her to fulfil your requests and indulge your preferences.

On her own time she enjoys cycling, diving and exercising. She looks well after herself and enjoys healthy living and good food.

Deckhand: James Thomas Nationality: British

Having recently completed his Offshore Yacht master, James has immense knowledge that goes far beyond this, and has been involved with water and boats from an early age.

James crewed three legs of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, sailing from Qingdao back to Southampton via San Francisco, Panama, New York, Ireland and Holland. Since then he has worked on a mixture of corporate sails for Clipper themselves and yacht deliveries.

James enjoys all aspects of cruising and racing. He also enjoys scuba diving and has gained his BSAC Sports Diver. James also has a passion for cooking and loves keeping fit by mountain bike riding.

James' enthusiasm is highly contagious and his love of the sea, sailing and boats makes him a great asset to our team and our guests.

Stewardess: Michelle Tapp Nationality: Australian

Michelle has a passion for the ocean and has been involved in both cruising and racing for almost 16 years. The ocean has taken Michelle to places such as the Great Barrier Reef, the Bay of Islands, Antigua and most recently the Panama Canal and the San Blas Islands.

Michelle takes pride in her work, pays attention to detail and focuses on exceeding the expectations of guests from which she attains a lot of pride.

Recently she completed her Yacht master Offshore whilst at home in Melbourne, Australia where her parents are retired farmers. Prior to professional yachting Michelle worked in commercial property management, managing a city property for a Melbourne family.

In her spare time Michelle enjoys yoga, snowboarding and when possible racing on yachts.
