Meet the Crew

Tony & Kate

Tony and Kate have been involved in the crewed charter yacht and villa hospitality business in the British Virgin Islands since 1999. Soon after arriving in the BVI they realized what a wonderful place it is and have made it their home ever since. Tony and Kate have been captain and chef of successful charter yachts in the BVIs for eight years, and provided over 150 high quality charters.

Tony and Kate chose to leave the UK in 1997. They combined their knowledge and skills to sail their 70-year-old classic 32-foot wooden yacht from the UK, via France, Africa and South America to the Caribbean where they cruised for two years. They also sailed via Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas.

Born in Cheshire in the UK, Tony took up sailing as a young boy when his father built a sailing dinghy in their garage. He went on to captain his first yacht at 16, delivering a boat along the south coast of England. Tony is now RYA Ocean Yachtmaster and BVI Boat Master 100 Ton License Grade 1 with over 40,000 sea miles.

Kate was born in Malta and spent her childhood in Northern Ireland, the UK and Hong Kong. As soon as she could, she left home and carried on travelling, spending several years working in the summers and travelling in the winters. Eventually she settled in London and took up sailing. Deciding that a boat would be much more interesting than a house, she bought a Dutch barge and lived on it in a marina in the center of London. Being paired with Tony and winning in a dinghy race one day led to the start of their relationship which was celebrated with the winning prize of a lottery ticket on the first ever National Lottery. They won 10 pounds - and have been laughing about life together ever since. ..read more

Kate has worked as a chef aboard yachts and in villas since 1999 and has loved every moment. She has attended a culinary course in France and has a food certificate from her early days in the food industry in London. Kate's close involvement in life in France has enabled her to learn firsthand the delights and rewards of delicious French cuisine. She has expanded her culinary skill and knowledge throughout her life. Kate has recently contributed to a recipe book with other top chefs from the island and appeared on the local TV show Gourmet Galley with Chef Lisa.

Kate and Tony enjoy an adventurous and busy life together and embrace hard work with vitality and enthusiasm. Charming, fun and great company, they are complete all round hospitality winners. They work well together under pressure and routinely handle all that the hospitality and sailing world may demand of them and have fun on the way.

Xenia 74 has a crew of four including a mate and stewardess.

Thanksgiving 2017
After a long day of travel, we are back home in San Francisco.

My recommendation to you, Patty, is to recommend Xenia with your highest praises. Xenia 74 should be first choice for your charterers. The boat itself was clearly the finest in the Caribbean. And, while the boat and location are enough to make a very memorable trip, it was the crew that took the trip to extraordinary levels. I have no experience with other crews but I cannot imagine a better crew than Bernie, Matt, Angie, and Dessi.

Thanks for everything,
Kenny

Reviews for Xenia 74 with previous crew:

Gareth & Kristine were friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating. They were always available and nearby and frequently checking on us to see if we needed a drink, snack, something carried, wanted to do an activity, etc., but they were never intrusive. Very professional and organized. I was extremely impressed with their ability to give us a plan but then be totally responsive if they sensed that we wanted to modify that plan. They simply could not have done a better job.

The food was a 10 out of 10. Every meal could have stood its ground in the world’s best restaurants. Everything from how the table was set, to the plating, to the quality of the ingredients, to the use of spices, to the variety between meals, was impeccable. Everyone raved about it and we had no desire to leave the boat for meals elsewhere because of this.

The boat was spotless, comfortable and well-ventilated. The air conditioning in the staterooms was very capable as well so we always were comfortable temperature-wise. They cleaned the staterooms frequently while we were dining or doing activities but I never saw them doing this nor had it interrupt our flow. Everything on the yacht was in good working order, shining and beautiful. The best part of the yacht was the high-end finishes and spacious areas.

Sailing Directions' service was also flawless. Great crew. Great boat. Overwhelming smooth and positive experience.

William W, aboard Catamaran Xenia 74 sailing the Virgin Islands

Our group of 8 had a wonderful time! Gareth showed us his sailing expertise, which everyone loved! The food, honestly was out of this world delish! We snorkeled, dove, shopped, hiked, paddle boarded, ate and drank our way through the BVI! Both Kristine and Gareth were always up for anything and always smiling! We kept referring to the BVI as a Disneyland for adults! The Xenia 74 is the most beautiful, well-kept catamaran!

The food was seriously amazing!! I can’t have gluten and one other guest couldn’t have sulfites and Kristine did a great job accommodating everyone.

Gretchen G, aboard Catamaran Xenia 74 sailing the Virgin Islands

The trip was amazing and beyond! We loved it!!!

Thank you for guiding us to choose the Xenia 74 for our recent trip to the BVIs. We had the best time and it was truly our best family vacation ever! Our kids are still asking daily when we are going on another Xenia vacation! We can’t wait to book again. The boat was gorgeous, the crew exceptionally gracious and knowledgeable and the food was inventive and simply delicious!
