Piers Helm – Captain
I’m born and bred in the British Virgin Islands! I started working on boats in my late teens running day trips and snorkelling tours throughout the BVI, and racing sail boats every chance I could since I was a little kid. While doing day trips I started venturing into the charter business and was averaging 18 to 24 charters a year, as well as working the day boats. I started to work on larger yachts a few years ago and have stuck with it since.
What does my role involve?
My responsibilities on board Necker Belle consist of a fair amount. I am in charge of all persons on board the vessel, from crew to guests. For guests, I plan their itineraries and vacation on board the vessel. I operate the tender for water sports, and escort our guests for tours around the island, take them snorkeling, and perhaps even lead them for some fun hiking around the islands. As for the crew, I am in charge of making sure the crew run a tidy and safe program for the guests, and also manage their schedules on board as well. As for the vessel, I run the Superyacht Necker Belle as safely and clean as possible, and run our weekly safety and fire drills to keep the crew well trained on our first aid and fire response.
My expertise lies in sailing, from racing to casual cruising. I also love to cook. When I was younger I made the choice to go down the career path of captain instead of a chef. It just so happens being a captain and an island boy that I am, I’m quite the expert behind a bar as well...read more
Rachael Johnson- Chef
Rachael grew up in Auckland, New Zealand with a family that were big on sailing and water sports. I have been professionally crewing on yachts since 2011 where I started in the Whitsunday Islands, Australia as a Cook/Hostess on charter yachts and eventually making my way on to super yachts as a stewardess in 2013. Since 2013 I have been fortunate enough to cruise the Mediterranean, New England, Caribbean and South Pacific.
At the end of 2015 I took a cookery course at Ashburton Cookery School in the UK and then spent some time sailing around the Caribbean with family and friends before joining Necker Belle as Chief Stewardess/Crew Cook in 2016.
What does my role involve?
As well as being the on board chef, I am responsible for the interior of Necker Belle. The Second Stewardess and I work together to keep the interior in immaculate condition and in a charter-ready state. On charter I am responsible for organizing guest activities, bar tending, meal service and ensuring crew provide anything else guests may require in a flawless and efficient manner.
My expertise Having worked exclusively on sailing boats I am a bit of an all-rounder and enjoy dipping into different departments of the boat, whether it’s galley, laundry or helping out on deck. My laid back nature helps guests relax into their vacation and my sense of discretion and eye for detail will ensure their needs are met. My biggest strength would be providing service with a smile!
Jonathan Luszcz- Engineer
Jonathan has been in the yachting industry for the past six years, working on a wide range of vessels from tiny fishing vessels to 300 ft mega yachts. I have had the luxury of working on yachts in the Bahamas, Caribbean, Eastern US, and West Coast US and Fiji in the South Pacific. As a charter guest you can rest assured that as your chief engineer I will maintain safety standards on board. You will be in good hands!
What does my role involve? To ensure safety of the vessel for both crew and guests at all times and provide a safe but fun environment on and around the vessel. I carry out an updated preventive maintenance schedule and repairs on all systems on board the vessel as necessary. I also regularly use my Electrical Engineering experience to maintain and monitor all systems on board at all times to maximize yacht performance.
I am an experienced yacht engineer able to maintain a well running yacht at peak performance at all times, both mechanical and electrical.
Douglas Murray- First Mate
Having grown up on the coast of the Scottish Highlands I have been on and off the ocean all my life. After teaching dinghy sailing in Greece and Turkey and volunteering as a sail trainer with young people for a year in Scotland, I thumbed a lift across the Atlantic and have now been working on yachts as a mate full time for 4 years.
What does my role involve?
It’s my job to help everyone on board have a great time while keeping them as safe as possible. I’m responsible, with the help of our deckhand, for the condition of Necker Belle. Together we do our best to keep her in pristine condition.
With tens of thousands of logged sea miles, several ocean passages and a shelf of trophies you might be forgiven for thinking my expertise lies in sailing but really I am an undefeated table football player!
Izzy Radmore- 2nd Stewardess
Born into a family full of pilots and cabin crew, travelling is in my DNA. As my father always said, it’s the best education you can have. After finishing school, I worked hard to save up enough money to go travelling through South-East Asia for three months with some girlfriends. After coming home, I realised that’s what I wanted to keep doing. A year later, I moved to Australia for two years, travelling around and moving cities every six months to make the most of it. After getting that out of my system, I moved to Austria for four months to complete a ski season. The next obvious move was flight attendant or yacht crew, and perhaps out of just wanting to be different, I chose yachting, and haven’t looked back since.
I am responsible for the cleaning of the interior, keeping her sharp and shiny on the inside. Together with my Chief Stewardess, we host the guests and support the crew. We also run laundry, the bar area, and service when guests are on-board. I also help with provisioning for charters and crew, and day-to-day general operations of the boat.
Daniel Buckmaster- Deckhand and Scuba Diving Instructor
Although relatively new to yachting, I am no stranger to the ocean. Coming from the beautiful island of Barbados, I’ve spent most of my life either in or around the sea. Scuba diving is my passion and I’ve spent many years taking out both experienced divers, and complete beginners, to enjoy the wonders of the underwater world.
I’m responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the exterior of the yacht, as well as conducting all scuba diving related activities. If you plan to enjoy some snorkelling, diving or any water sports I’ll be the one taking you out!
Anything and everything related to the underwater world. I have about 5 years’ experience as a PADI Divemaster and I first started diving more than 10 years ago. Marine biology is a huge interest of mine, the fight against the invasive lion fish in the Caribbean being one of my more recent endeavors. I am also a bit of wine enthusiast having lived and worked in several vineyards in France.
